Scoliosis

Scoliosis

The sideways curvature of the spine is referred to as scoliosis. Mostly diagnosed in teenagers between 10 to 15 in age, it can however affect people of any age bracket. A large number of scoliosis cases are mild, but they could get worse if not treated over time. In some cases, it can be disabling.

An extremely curved amount spine can reduce the space area within the chest. This makes it difficult for the lungs to function properly. Adolescents with this condition need to be closely monitored with X-rays to detect if the curves are getting worse early. Depending on the progress of the condition, some individuals might need to wear a brace, while others require surgery.
